Who Kicked Your Ass Buddy?

The amount of crazy shit I see in Tokyo daily is enough to fill several volumes of an epic novel. I don`t even write about half of the things I either get into directly or simply witness. Tokyo is a much rougher city than most folks will ever admit. Case in point is the gentlemen in the photo to your left.

I don`t know who did it but someone fucked this guy up. I was on my way home when I first spotted him. I had made it to Nishi-Nippori station and was waiting to transfer on the Chiyoda line. He was trying to stand up but it appeared to be a loosing battle. He was close enough to me that I was able to get a smell of him. The bastard smelled like cheap beer and blood mixed with cheese feet. Mother fucker had gotten into some really bad shit for sure. The train finally arrived a few minutes later and he disappeared into the mass hoard of sorry fucks crowding the train. I thought I would never see him again; boy was I wrong.

The Chiyoda line from Nishi-Nippori to Kita-Senju was more packed than usual. I was sure this dude most likely scared the shit out of enough weak ass J-gals and was carried away by station staff at Machiya station.Damn if I was wrong! The bastard managed to survive all the way to Kita-Senju. It was at Kita-Senju station that some of this guys story finally came out in the wash.

You can figure that I was really fucking surprised to see this beat up fucker at Kita-Senju. Right there at the TX platform he was still struggling to stand up on his own. This time he was attempting to talk on his phone. My Japanese is still limited, but damn better than it used to be, so I was only able to make out some of what he was attempting to say. It sounded like he was talking to his wife. I was able to clearly make out the following, `Sorry. I got into a fight at a hostess bar. I am bleeding.` At that point I said to myself, `Fuck this asshole!` I don`t have a lot of respect for fellas who go to hostess bars all the damn time. I understand that most of these guys are going because something is missing at home. They need a women who can make them feel like a man; at least for a little while. I get that...really I do. Yet, it would be better to work on things at home rather than give up and run to some young greedy bitch you will suck all the money they can out of some lonely guy looking for a little respect and attention.

Any god damn way, when the local train finally decided to show its slow ass, the idea popped into my head to get a picture of this sorry fucker.

My feelings about this truly sad mixed up fella is complex. On one hand my heart goes out to him. He most likely had a fucked up day at work and his wife is probably a cold blooded bitch. He went to some low down hostess bar to have some young fine ass gal cheer him up. Sadly, while at the hostess bar he must have had one too many drinks, got too friendly with one of the gals, and some Yakuza bouncier beat his face in proper. On the other hand...Fuck him! His wife will forgive him and their relationship will keep on being a joke. His company is paying for his national health insurance so he will not pay a fucking dime to have his face fixed up. 99% percent of foreign English teachers get no support from their companies to help them pay that fucking over priced nation health insurance tax. If I pulled the same shit he did my wife would divorce me and I would get stiffed with trying to pay to have my face fixed up; even after the so-called discount I get from the national health insurance tax.

*So, I am wondering what kind of stuff yall want to see me write more about in the next few posts: Teaching(all aspects of it), thoughts of the state of Japan, J-blogging community, the inner workings of my mind, or the chaos that is Tokyo.  Please don`t request any lame ass `wow Japan` stuff. I gave up writing about such things a long time ago.

Oh ouch! Hostesses aren't that evil. He might have had to go to a club for work. When you're stressed out, things can get ugly when alcohol's aded to the mix.

I don't think anyone associated with the club beat him. These days the economy's so bad you would grovel for any customer and forgive him anything if he's paying. If he didn't pay, that might have been an issue. He probably got in a fight with another customer, if anything. That's just what I would assume.
His booze smell and the lack of scars on his right knuckles (most peeps are righties ) make me wonder if he fell. His scar woulda come from his rivals left hand too.

People seem to try and throw bombs when they are drunk so that would be the power hand. No scar on his hand visible, he got hit with a left.....maybe not..?

If he did get whacked his boozed ass probably had it coming....beer balls can make trouble if your fists are not as fast as your mouth :)

**just finished the post......guess he did get wacked**

He looked pretty fucked up to me. He might have gotten kicked in the face or had his face slammed into something.
dunno man, those scratches don't really look like he got beaten. More like, maybe, thrown out? I've seen J guys so totally stressed up, in combination with that cheap whiskey stuff getting really noisy and annoying, pushy.

It's hard to judge. I don't know much about Japanese guys and their hostess bar going antics but I thought sometimes they have to go - if the boss askes them or to entertain clients. Maybe he's a real arsehole and deserves it, maybe he's a poor sucker in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As for posts, I'd love to read some more teaching stuff. This is the only blog I've found that actually talks about the nuts and bolts of the stuff... and the 'omg i don't have a teaching degree but I want to do this shit as best I can' type of stuff that I really relate to.

Thanks for the feedback Kathryn. Speaking the truth about teaching in Japan day in and day is something a bit lacking in the among J-bloggers. I don`t see it too often myself. Chris blogs about it sometimes and his posts are always good.
Funny how the smell of a place can trigger memories. Personally, I liked the way you made sense out of all the chaos.

I have only seem someone THAT fucked up on the trains in Tokyo a few times. Usually when one of these salarymen get their ass kicked, they find a hole to crawl into for a while.
When I first came here about 5 years ago, I had to call an ambulance for this chap in a suit who looked to be in his 60's, stumbling around with a worrying amount of blood coming down his face. It was about 10 in the morning and I think he was just blind drunk and probably fell down a set of stairs or something. That was in Tokyo near the government buildings.

Have you actually ever managed to see a fight here?

Also about the insurance: from my own experience in two jobs as a normal full time worker, the insurance levy is taken out of your pay every month. It would vary according to the job, but I have paid anywhere between 9000 and 15000 a month for this, I think this is possibly cheaper than the kokumin insurance. Also, it's the same 70/30 system when you go to the doctor too.

I have seen several fights in Tokyo. I saw one in Shibuya in which a gang of `prettty boy` young J-guys were fighting over some insults tossed at each other. It was funny because it was clear they did not know how to fight.

Most of the fights I have seen have been in my home hood of Adachi-ku. The police clash with the local street kids and bosozoku from time to time. It usually happens late at night when most folks are fast asleep. I have this habit of wondering around my local hood at night so I get to see interesting things.

About the national health insurance tax: I don`t like socialized health insurance. I KNOW there are much better ways of doing things. The current system creates extreme laziness and greed in the health industry.

I went for a health check once and it took 10 people to carry out the damn check. In America one or two doctors do it all. If I want a doctors note for my job, the charge is 3,000 yen for the doctor to sign his name on a piece of paper.
Thanks for the reply. I don't live in a big city, so I have never really seen any violence. Have you ever written anything about these clashes? I would be interested to read more about it.

Why do you think this system encourages greed and laziness?

The charge for the doctor's certificate is shit, but are you required to submit one if you are sick at your job? It was standard practice where I was before Japan to hand a doctor's cert if you had a day off after a weekend or a few days in a row, but I have never been asked here for one.
My company requires me to get a doctors note anytime I am unable to attend ANY lesson; regardless of the reason. They do that due to the lack of trust between the company and the workers.

The socialist health care system allows the health industry to suck off the government because they know people will not be so choosy about which doctor or hospital to visit. Competition is decreased which screws up quality. Forcing all doctors and hospitals compete with each other will lower prices and keep quality high.

Also, insurance companies and doctors and hospital must not be allowed to have any connection at all! If they get too close to each other, price fixing and bribes will happen.
Are you originally from America?

What do you think about the British and Australian systems then, which pretty much don't handle cash what-so-ever?

That's pretty rough from your company.
British and Aussie system? Well, I don`t have enough money to pay for my broken leg and everyone else`s broken leg.
In 5 years here, I have never seen a salaryman fight. What a sheltered little life I lead. I'd put money on his wife giving a little bit of a hard time, and, as Kathryn said, he might have just have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yeah, it might have been just his bad luck.
LOL! I've seen one fight back in the days..it was funniest shit! One guy was beating the shit out of the other while the other was steady apologizing for making him angry enough to whup his ass!
I'd like to see some stuff about KitKits! I love KitKats, especially the Japan versions..all kinds of exotic flavors and shit! lol
Nah seriously, the inner workings of your mind will be great. Mixed in with some Tokyo on the Down Low!

Overall, knocked down fights are not as common as in the states; they do happen in Tokyo all the same.
Thanks for the feedback about future posts.
I will hit you up on twitter here in a bit.

Everyone loves a good fucked up tale. I got a few stories to tell that is for sure. Also, new insanity goes down all the time.

The only fight I ever saw as a tourist to Japan was in Kanazawa. Well, it wasn't really a fight - because it was pretty much one sided. A father-in-law beating the crap out of his son-in-law after a dinner at a restaurant, with his daughter trying to stop him and the mother-in-law looking pretty bored; the restaurant staff seemed torn between wanting to try stop that guy and not wanting to be involved. Rather fun, I must say. Shows that Japanese aren't all robots. ;p

Damn! That is rather funny. I bet the staff was pretty confused. Who do you jump in and help?
